Celebrating Lunar New Year with a Side of AR at Panda Express

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year 2020, Panda Express served up some Chinese food with a side of augmented reality to its customers.

The Celebration of Good Fortune AR experience uses AR filters on both Facebook and Instagram to allow others to play interactive games with cultural icons such as dancing lions and firecrackers, take a virtual tour of a lantern festival and have the ability to enter a sweepstake.

“This year, we are thrilled to further invite [our guests] into this wonder-filled celebration through our themed AR experience,” said Andrea Cherng, Chief Marketing Officer at Panda Express.

The experience came as a part of the restaurant's yearly promotion for Lunar New Year, that includes the AR experience and sweepstakes, along with the new Firecracker Shrimp entree limited-time offer and distribution of over own million traditional lucky red envelopes containing a wish of good fortune, coupons and an activity for kids.

“We are honored to bring millions of people together to celebrate Lunar New Year through our crave-worthy food and our new digital experience,” says Cherng.
